I joined the UTK faculty in 1987. I started as an assistant professor and am now a full professor. Prior to coming to UT I taught at The University of Texas at Austin for 5 years. Before that I was in graduate school at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I earned a masters and a doctorate. I did my undergraduate degree in advertising at The University of Florida.
Attached is my CV so you can see in detail the classes I've taught and the research I've conducted. To give you a snapshot of these things, I have taught most of the courses in the undergrad curriculum and some in the graduate curriculum including: Advertising Issues, Advertising Management (at the masters and undergraduate levels), Advertising Creative Strategy and, most recently, Advertising Design. My research revolves around: advertising gender role portrayals; advertising for vice products (e.g., alcohol and tobacco); cross-cultural advertising; and advertising regulation.
I have also served on or chaired several masters and Ph.D. committees. I'm active on School, College and University committees. Most recently I've been the chair of the Undergraduate Academic Policy Committee.
I've participated in two study abroad programs--one Dublin in 2014 and another in London in 2016. I strongly support activities that broaden students' academic experience like studying abroad, doing internships, learning a foreign language and traveling with the School to New York in the spring.
I am grateful the The University of Tennessee and to the students I've been privileged to work with over these last almost 3 decades. I'm also blessed to work with outstanding colleagues. It's truly the people who make the place.
