Hello! I am a professor in the School of Journalism and Electronic Media at the University of Tennessee. My PhD comes from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities with a major in mass communication and a minor in political psychology. My MA in media communications (radio-television-film) is from the University of Maryland. After completing the Summer Institute in Political Psychology at Ohio State University, I also received a graduate certificate in political psychology.
My two main areas of research interests pertain to diversity in mass media and to subjects related to surveillance, press freedom, terrorism, and communication/information. I received a Fulbright research grant (2007-2008) that allowed me to conduct studies in Japan on government/corporate surveillance and issues involving press control. Check out some of my conference presentations and publications listed under the “Publications” tab to get a better idea of the type of research I have been engaged in.
